Thank you for being a part of the 2017 Memorial Day Parade! Please follow these instructions to ensure a timely and safe parade experience for all.
Line up at your assigned staging location at 1 p.m.
No vehicles will be permitted at the staging locations unless they are part of the parade.
The parade steps off promptly at 2 p.m.
You are required to immediately follow the group in front of you so the parade moves smoothly and continuously. There will be staff placed throughout the parade route to ensure your group is moving. Groups that create gaps in the parade will not be allowed to return next year.
Stopping along the parade route is NOT permitted, including for performances. Participants are expected to immediately follow the group in front of them.
No throwing of objects of any kind (including candy) from vehicles or by any walker that would cause people to enter the parade route. Equipment and/or decorations may not obstruct the driver’s view. Police will be present to enforce.
No street vending or sales are permitted.
No confetti permitted.
Volume of music being played cannot be excessive. If your group is asked by event staff to lower the volume, you must comply. If you do not comply, you will not be permitted to participate next year. Staff may gage volume with the use of a sound measuring device.
You may perform up to a maximum of 3 minutes in front of the stage at the end of the parade. Each entry is given 3 minutes. If your group exceeds 3 minutes, you will be disqualified for any award. You are not required to perform.
At the end of the parade, please be near the stage to hear the winners announced.
There are low tree limbs and power lines as this is a residential route so plan your entry accordingly.
The parade – and the rest of the festival – is rain or shine.
Appropriate behavior is required at all times or you may be immediately dismissed from the parade.
Please make sure your group has adequate water prior to and throughout the parade route.
If you have any question prior to the event, call 703-248-5199. On Memorial Day, assistance will be provided at the stage area on Park Ave. or you may call 703-248-5027.
