Exotic Animals

An exotic animal is defined as any animal except:
  • Aquarium Fish.
  • Birds which are normally purchased through a pet store.
  • Cats.
  • Dogs.
  • Domestic rabbits.
  • Ferrets.
  • Gerbils.
  • Gold Fish.
  • Guinea Pigs.
  • Hamsters.
  • Mice.
  • Non-Poisonous Snakes less then eight feet in length.
  • Rats which have been bred in captivity and which never have known the wild.
The city code states that unless the animal is listed in the exotic animal code, it is illegal to own the animal in this jurisdiction. If residents need further information concerning the ownership of exotic animals in the City of Falls Church, they may contact the Animal Control Officer.
