Fines & Fees

By signing your library card application you agree to:
  • Keep track of the due dates for your materials. Library reminder notices are a courtesy.
  • Return or renew items checked out on your card by the due date, or pay an appropriate late fee.
  • Pay the replacement cost for lost or damaged items checked out on your card.
Overdue Charges
Overdue charges for materials that are renewed or returned after the due date are:
  • The fine is 25 cents per day for most items.
  • There is a $1 per day fine for movies (VHS or DVD) and keep in mind that they also have a 1 week loan period.
  • Some special loans, such as interlibrary loans or loans of reference materials, have a higher fine rate.
  • There is a maximum fine of $8 per item, and a daily maximum (a maximum fine for all items, however overdue, returned at 1 time) of $25.
  • The fine, however, will never exceed the replacement cost of the item.

Lost Items
Lost or damaged materials are charged the full replacement cost as specified by the library's database. Because many library materials include special covers and processing, we are not able to accept replacement copies in exchange for lost or damaged items. For more information call the library at 703-248-5031.
