Library Fees and Lost or Damaged Items

  1. COVID-19 UPDATE: Curbside Pickup & Returns

In response to COVID-19, the library building is closed to the public until further notice. We are offering contactless curbside pickup service, which can also be used to return items.

    Programs & Services While Closed

We continue to offer a wide range of programs and services online. Check our Library at Home webpage or subscribe to our bi-weekly newsletter to stay up to date!

By applying for and receiving a library card you agree to:

  • Keep track of the due dates for your materials. Library reminder notices are a courtesy.
  • Return or renew items checked out on your card by the due date.
  • Pay the replacement cost for lost or damaged items checked out on your card.

We are a Fine Free Library!

In an effort to remove barriers to service, we will no longer charge fines for overdue materials starting July 1st, 2020. All previously assessed fines for overdue materials will also be forgiven.

Lost, missing or damaged materials will remain on patron accounts until those materials are returned or the replacement fee for the material is paid depending on condition (see below for more information). Materials that are 30 days overdue are automatically billed to the patron account. If those materials are returned in good condition, the billed fee will be removed from the account.

For those that view fines as an opportunity to support the library, consider donating directly to the library by contacting our administrative assistant at 703-248-5033 (TTY 711) or via email at

Lost or Damaged Items

Lost or damaged materials are charged the full replacement cost as specified by the library's database and include a $5.00 processing fee. Because many library materials include special covers and processing, we are not able to accept replacement copies in exchange for lost or damaged items. For more information call the library at 703-248-5031 (TTY 711).

For more information on specific fees, visit our Fine and Fee Chart or call 703-248-5031 (TTY 711).
