Today (Wednesday, February 24) police officers and detectives from around the region (including the City of Falls Church) are participating in an innovative operation aimed at curbing distribution and/or possession of heroin.
A variety of enforcement and education actions were taken by departments across the region. In Fairfax County, officers served outstanding arrest warrants but some of those arrestees were offered an opportunity to seek immediate treatment for their addiction. Those that chose help were transported via Fastran bus to the Merrifield Crisis Response Center where they were assessed and began their road to recovery.
The program, dubbed “Operation Save a Life Through CAST (Chiefs and Sheriffs Together) was a comprehensive effort designed to combat the heroin and opiate use across the region.
