PARK(ing) Day

Friday, September 20, 2019

The City of Falls Church is holding its annual PARK(ing) Day Event on Friday, September 20 from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. near the Mary Riley Styles Public Library (120 N. Virginia Ave. )

PARK(ing) Day is an annual international event where the public collaborates to temporarily transform parking spaces into small parks to elicit a reconsideration of the designation of public space. This global project evolved out of the implementation of a local project in San Francisco in 2005. The now global PARK(ing) Day event occurs annually on the third Friday of September.

The City will install a parklet to observe this very special annual event in a designated street parking space on the corner of Park and N Virginia Avenues, near the Mary Riley Styles Public Library (120 N. Virginia Ave.)

Events like PARK(ing) Day enrich our community life by creating an inviting streetscape and by promoting activities that allow for social exchange, fun, creativity and a rethinking of the usage of the public-right-of-way. We hope the event will motivate the public to participate in the civic processes which shape our urban environment.
