Local History Room Closing on August 18 in Preparation for Library Expansion & Renovation Project
Closing August 18:
The Local History Room will officially close on Sunday, August 18, so staff can prepare the collection for storage during the Library Expansion and Renovation Project, which is expected to start this fall.
Collection will be in storage and inaccessible until late 2020 or early 2021:
Because space is extremely limited in the temporary trailer where the library will be moving during construction, the entire Local History Collection will be placed in storage and will be inaccessible until the renovated building re-opens in late 2020 or early 2021.
New Building will have new Local History Room:
Included in the library renovation plan is a larger, more prominent Local History Room on the main floor! The new Room will also again have regular weekly hours to encourage drop-ins and generally increase access. (Currently, access to the Local History Room is by appointment only.)
Access photos and death notices online:
While the Room is closed, you can still search and view over 1,300 photos and over 15,000 death notices and obituaries from the Local History Collection on our website at history.fallschurchva.gov.
