Registration Requirements

To register to vote in Virginia, you must be a U.S. citizen, 18 years of age by the day of the election, a resident of Virginia, and a resident of your local precinct. You may register by mail, in-person at any Virginia Registrar's Office or Virginia voter registration location, and at certain Virginia government agencies, including Virginia's Department of Motor Vehicles (and the Falls Church DMV Select Office).

Virginia does not register voters by political party. You will be sent a voter card by mail. You do not need the card to be able to vote. Your registration is permanent. You do not need to re-register for each election. You must register at least 21 days before an election in order to be eligible to vote.

Change of Address

You are required to notify the Registrar of any change of address. To change your address, simply fill out the form on the back of your voter card or send a letter to the Registrar.
