Renewing Materials

  1. Temporary Location Closing July 10 to Begin Library Move

    The library renovation and expansion project is coming to an end and the outside of the new library building is looking great! There’s still work that needs to be done on the inside including moving our entire collection into its new home and setting up public and staff spaces. Our temporary location (at 601 S. Oak St.) will close permanently and we will suspend curbside pickup service starting July 10 at 5 pm so we can begin the process of moving back into our library building at 120 N. Virginia Ave, which will re-open on Monday, August 16, at 10 am. Learn more...

Renewal Rules

  • Most items can be renewed 2 times, and will automatically renew the date they are due
  • Items cannot be renewed if they are on reserve for another patron
  • Renewal due dates are calculated from the date of the renewal
  • You can renew online, via text, or over the phone (see below for more information)

Automatic Renewals

Items are automatically renewed the date they are due. 

Items may not be automatically renewed if:

  • the material has already been renewed twice
  • the material is on reserve for another patron
  • the library account in question over $10.00 in fees
  • the item is part of our e-collection

Renewal notifications will be sent to patrons via their preferred notification method when items are auto-renewed. These notifications may include information about items that are not eligible for renewal when applicable.

How to renew items

Items can be renewed online, via text, or by calling the library. 

Online Renewal

You can renew your items online through our library catalog. To log into your account, you will need your MRSPL card number (located on the back of your library card) and your password.

Text Renewal

If you have listed your cell phone as one of your contact numbers in your account you can text the following commands to 703-520-2484 at anytime (24/7).

  • Renew Due: Renews all items due in the next few days
  • Renew All: Renews all items on your account
  • Summary: Sends you a privacy redacted summary of what is currently out and what is due

You also have the option to set up your due date notifications to come via text in your account. The text commands above can be used in response to these due date notifications. 

Phone Renewal

You can also renew by calling our renewal line at 703-248-5175 at any time (24/7). Please leave as much of the information below as possible:

  • You name (Please spell your last name)
  • Your library card bar code number
  • The titles and or bar code numbers of the books you wish to renew
  • You phone number (in case we need to alert you to issues with the renewal)

Renewal Restrictions

You will not be able to renew any items that:

  • Have been placed on reserve by another patron
  • Have already been renewed twice
