Why update the transportation chapter?
The Transportation Chapter was last updated in 2005. Since then, conditions in the city and the region have changed. Population growth continues to add more automobile traffic to the city's roads. This means increased automobile congestion along Broad Street and Washington Street and cut-through traffic in residential neighborhoods.

At the same time, many residents are asking for increased safety and accessibility when traveling on foot or bicycle. Updating the Transportation Chapter of the Comprehensive Plan provides a new framework for staff to deliver transportation solutions that will meet the needs and desires of the community. The updated Chapter will call for staff to complete planning efforts (like limiting commercial parking in residential neighborhoods) and deliver projects (like safe pedestrian crossing points along Broad Street) according to a prioritized schedule.
