Use this application to report a sold/moved/traded or otherwise disposed of vehicle that was garaged and taxed in the City of Falls Church to have it removed from tax records. The City of Falls Church prorates property tax monthly; your taxes will be adjusted based on move out date of the vehicle.
If you are moving to another locality in Virginia the Commissioner recommends that you update your address with the DMV and USPS prior to continuing.

As an alternative to submitting SSN's online, you may submit your Virginia Driver's License number. Only Virginia Driver's License Numbers are acceptable.
If you do not hold a Virginia Driver's License and do not wish to provide your Social Security Number online, you may apply in person at the Commissioner's Office.
Use of your Social Security Number is mandatory for taxation. The City of Falls Church will retrieve this number regardless of your provision in accordance with the authority provided by Virginia Code section 58.1-3017. Social Security Numbers are used as a means of identification of the filing and retrieval of local tax returns, and those numbers are used to facilitate tax collection and to provide tax refunds to tax payers. Social Security account numbers are regarded as confidential tax information, and except as otherwise provided by law, those numbers will not be disclosed for any other purpose. If you do not wish to provide your Social Security Number online, you may provide a Virginia Driver's License number or apply in person at the Commissioner's Office.
Section 58.1 of the Virginia Code indicates that the burden of proof lies with the taxpayer for ending tax liability on a vehicle. The following information provides the needed documents required for certain circumstances. The documents may be uploaded for submission with this application.
If your vehicle is tagged and titled in Virginia and subsequently sold/traded/totaled, proof of disposition may already be available to the Commissioner through DMV Records and additional documentation is not required.
If your vehicle is tagged and titled in Virginia and moves to another jurisdiction in Virginia you must register your vehicle with the new local jurisdiction as soon as possible. The commissioner will not move vehicles out of Falls Church in this situation until the vehicle is registered with the new locality.
If your vehicle is moving with you to another state, the new vehicle state title or registration is required for the Commissioner to update your tax records and DMV status.
If your vehicle is moving overseas a Bill of Lading provided by the shipping company or the appropriate Department of State officer.
