Geospatial Services

The geospatial services program within the Department of Public Works is responsible for maintaining the city’s geospatial data. The core mission of the geospatial services program is the maintenance of the stormwater and sanitary sewer networks. The program also maintains transportation data, real estate information, aerial imagery, elevation data, and other infrastructure data. The data is maintained in a Geographic Information System or GIS, which is a system designed to capture, analyze, manage, and present spatial or geographic data.

Public Maps & Data

All of the public layers are available for download and can be accessed via our Open Data page

To access the data via the city’s web mapping applications please visit our Map Gallery page. This gallery contains applications with a specific purpose (i.e. Impervious Surface education, Sanitary Sewer Account Lookup, City Parks and Fields Finder, and Solid Waste & Recycling Lookup). If you have any mapping requests or questions about our applications please contact the GIS Program Manager.

Stormwater Utility Fee

The purpose of the Stormwater Utility is to provide an adequate, sustainable source of revenue for stormwater management in order to maintain the service level that is necessary to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the residents of the city. The fee is based on the amount of impervious surface (e.g. roof, driveway, walkway, patio, etc.) within an individual parcel of land. For more information on the fee please visit the Stormwater Utility Page.

To view your property's impervious surface please visit the impervious surface mapping application. If you believe that your property's impervious surface has been mapped incorrectly please submit a Stormwater Utility Fee Adjustment form.

Real Estate Assessments Map

The city's Real Estate Assessment Information Database is designed to provide online access to property information records. By Virginia law, real estate records are public information. The database provides detailed information on all properties in the city.
